The UA Ruhr universities Bochum, Duisburg-Essen and Dortmund established the graduate school SiMiDe to intensify and coordinate their research and doctorate training. The main scientific goal of SiMiDe is to formulate, implement and apply novel scale-bridging simulation methods for mechanical and coupled processes with the purpose of revealing physical relations between the inner structure of materials and their macroscopic properties. The thus-obtained insights form the basis for designing materials with tailor-made mechanical behavior and heat and mass transport properties. By establishing SiMiDe, the involved UA Ruhr departments intensify their scientific and educational cooperation in this field and establish a new research focus across the three university locations.
The cooperation is put into practice mainly by joint seminars during the semester and yearly spring schools for the SiMiDe doctorate researchers. The following institutes and university departments participate in SiMiDe:
|Ruhr-Universität Bochum||ICAMS (Prof. A. Hartmaier, Prof. I. Steinbach),
Institute of Computational Engineering (Prof. K. Hackl, Prof. G. Meschke, Prof. H. Steeb)
|TU Dortmund||Institute of Mechanics (Prof. A. Menzel, Prof. J. Mosler, Dr.-Ing. T. Bartel), Institute of Mechanics Structural Analysis and Dynamics (Prof. T. Ricken),
Institute of Numerical Methods (Prof. F.-J. Barthold)
|Universität Duisburg-Essen||Institute of Mechanics (Prof. J. Schröder, apl Prof. J. Bluhm, Dr.-Ing. A. Schwarz)|
SiMiDe is organized by a Plenum of Doctoral Researchers and a Plenum of Principal Investigators. A management board, in which also two members of the doctorate researchers have a seat decides on organizational matters and is supported by the Coordinations office.
Currently the Management Board consists of
- Prof. Dr. Alexander Hartmaier (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), speaker
- Prof. Dr. Andreas Menzel (TU Dortmund)
- Prof. Dr. Jörg Schröder (Universität Duisburg-Essen)
- Matthias Labusch (Universität Duisburg-Essen), doctorate researcher
- Andrea Sindern (TU Dortmund), doctorate researcher
- Dr-Ing. Philipp Junker (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), head of coordination office
